Avoid Post-Holiday Debt Hangovers

Here are some ideas to help keep your holiday spendingdebt free and on track

The holidays are fast approaching us. And, the days when time flies by for adults and crawls for our young children, grandchildren, nephews and nieces are almost here. Holiday gift giving, company parties and family gatherings will soon take center stage. Yes, the stresses and fun of the holiday season are almost here. If you tend to overspend and go into debt, I invite you to take control of your holiday spending this year by planning your holiday spending budget now. Whether you call it a budget or a spending plan, it is important that you don’t go shopping without a written list and a written budget.

Many times fighting the urge to spend too much is especially tough during the holidays. In addition to 'normal' holiday stressors, sometimes we have family traditions, childhood memories, unrealistic expectations and even some guilt that could get in our way when working hard to stick to our budget.  Go easy on yourself. But, be watchful of feelings that pull you off track.

Just remember how fantastic you will feel in January when those holiday credit card bills arrive with zero balances from holiday shopping or at the very least, with a balance that you can pay off in full when your January 2012 bills roll in!
